Mission PDF Print E-mail

In response to the teachings of Jesus Christ, the mission of Catholic Charities is to serve people in need, especially those who are poor and vulnerable; to work to improve social conditions for all people in the community; and to call members of the Church and community to do the same.

Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Saint Louis, is the largest private provider of social services in the state of Missouri. Organized as a federation, Catholic Charities is comprised of 8 agencies offering more than 100 programs to assist, on average, more than 120,000 poor and impoverished people annually.

Race, creed and ethnic background play no role in determining who receives help from Catholic Charities. Need is the only criterion.

Beyond the City
Need is no stranger in the counties surrounding St. Louis city. In recent years, we have expanded services to serve children and adults in St. Louis County, Jefferson, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Ste. Genevieve, Washington, and Perry Counties.

Catholic Charities agencies and more than 8,000 volunteers are dedicated to serving countless children, women, and men who do not have enough food to eat; who are deprived of adequate education, housing, or employment; who suffer the trauma of abuse or neglect.

Catholic Charities' Vision for the 21 st Century Believing in the presence of God in our midst, we proclaim the sanctity of human life and the dignity of the person. To this end, Catholic Charities works with individuals, families, and communities to help them meet their needs, address their issues, eliminate oppression and build a just and compassionate society.

Catholic Charities' identity begins with a fundamental belief--we do what we do because Jesus Christ taught us to do it. "...I assure you as often as you did it for one of the least of my brothers, you did it for me." Matt. 25:37-40
