St. Patrick Center
Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP)

Almost half of Missouri’s veterans live in St. Louis. In addition, over a million reside in Illinois. Tragically, many of these vets are homeless, and many of them are forced to come across the Mississippi River to obtain services available at St. Patrick Center.

In HVRP, veterans receive the support services they need, such as referral for substance-abuse and mental health issues; job readiness classes, which provide four days of interviewing skills training, resume writing and instruction in appropriate on-the-job conduct. Veterans receive $15-a-day stipend and an additional $15 for perfect attendance.

Project Hero
Through a working relationship with the Department of Mental Health and the Veterans Administration, St. Patrick Center launched Project HERO (Housing, Employment & Recovery Opportunities) in 2008 as a program designed to move homeless veterans toward permanent housing, self sufficiency and community integration. When a veteran first enters the HERO program, they are housed in their own apartment. By giving a clean and dignified environment, the individual is safe to make future plans while anticipating success. Veterans are required to pay one third of their income toward rent and all utility costs while in program.

Veterans GO! Green
Veterans GO! Green, as part of the United States Department of Labor Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP), provides job training to assist in reintegrating veterans into meaningful employment within the green industry. Services are provided through a case management approach that networks with federal, state and local resources for veteran support programs. Green Industry Training & Job Placement assistance is provided and focuses (1) Sustainable Horticulture/Landscape Management and (2) Recycling/Waste Management. Two training programs addressing these industries with a history of success are available to qualifying veterans.
