Adoption Day in the Judge’s Chamber!
Because someone listened when God called – and one of our agencies was there to help – brothers Carlos and Sterling can now focus on the usual joys of childhood, like an impromptu football game in the backyard.
Their mother Bernadette didn’t expect to be helping children with homework and running to football practices at this time in her life. But her already busy schedule got busier when she answered what she believes was a call from God to give back through foster parenting, and then adoption. Bernadette connected to Carlos and Sterling through Good Shepherd Children & Family Services, a Catholic Charities of St. Louis federated agency.
“It’s a good challenge,” says the working mother and grandmother, adding that she finds inspiration from a favorite Bible verse, 2 Corinthians 9:7, in which St. Paul reminds us that “God loves a cheerful giver.” Bernadette believes we are all called in different ways to help others because “we’re all part of God’s family.”
Certainly not everyone is called to foster care or adoption. Just as Carlos and Sterling are grateful to Bernadette for responding to God’s specific call to her, we are grateful to our supporters for answering the call to help those in need, especially the poor and vulnerable.
When you support Catholic Charities, you send a message of hope and love to the people we serve. You let them know they are not alone and that we are all precious members of God’s family.
