Meet Our February Everyday Amazing Employees

Each month, two Catholic Charities of St. Louis Federation employees nominated by their peers are recognized for exemplifying Personal Excellence, a Spirit of Servant Leadership, and the Catholic Charities Mission. The honorees for February 2019 are…

Cardinal Ritter Senior Services Service Coordinator—HUD Housing Sharon Burr

Sharon has been in her current role since 2008 and is described by a nominator as a true advocate for the residents, with a spirituality that shines through in everything she does. The senior residents in her care struggle with low income, but Sharon continually puts in extra time and effort to help find necessities they often lack, as well as some extras they might enjoy. This often means calling and visiting multiple community resources.

Sharon is also generous in sharing her time and expertise with team members who are struggling with things she’s experienced herself. A nominator called Sharon a “blessing to Cardinal Ritter Senior Services,” known for her pleasant personality, professionalism, dedication, and her personal motto, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

Good Shepherd Children & Family Services Director of Foster Care Mary Thome

Mary joined the Good Shepherd team in 1998 as a case assistant and took advantage of the Catholic Charities tuition discount program through SLU to earn her Masters in Social Work. She has held every role on the foster care team.

A nominator called Mary an amazing leader of a very complex, challenging program. She is known throughout the St. Louis Child Welfare community as an expert and the go-to person when colleagues from partner agency need advice. Mary is also known for her wonderful laugh and calm demeanor in a crisis.

“She is innovative, a great problem solver, compassionate and always puts a child’s needs first in her decision making,” said the nominator. “Though she is one of the busiest people in the agency – there is often a line outside her door – she always takes the time to listen and offer support, guidance and expertise. I honestly don’t know what we would do without her!”

Congrats to all who were nominated! We’ll publish a complete list of nominees at the end of each quarter.
