Foster Grandparent Program

A Senior Connection

Created in 1965, this volunteer program provides paid work opportunities to older adults who serve as both mentors and friends to children.

Our Foster Grandparent volunteers serve as role models, mentors, and friends to children with special or exceptional needs. This federally funded program was established more than 50 years ago to provide the kind of loving relationship a child needs to achieve a successful future.

Foster grandparents volunteer at Head Start Centers, schools, and other nonprofit youth facilities. They help children learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring, and guide them at critical times in their lives. Our older adults experience a special joy and warmth that comes from helping children who need them. It’s a powerful feeling to teach and befriend a child.
